Dental Implants

Dental implants are a relatively new form of dental treatment that replace missing or damaged teeth with artificial teeth that look, feel and behave like natural teeth.

At Banstead Dental Care, experienced Oral Implant Surgeon Vijay Bhargava is happy to accept referrals for dental implant cases (for placement and restoration) using Nobel Biocare Implants, as well as bone grafting and Sinus Lift cases, Surgical Extractions and Apicectomies.

What Are Dental Implants?

Implants are one way of replacing missing teeth. A titanium screw is planted in the jaw bone to support a replacement tooth. This acts like the root of a natural tooth. Implants can also be used to support fixed bridges or dentures.

Implant treatment normally has two stages. First, the implant is placed in the jaw. Then, when the jaw has healed, replacement teeth are attached to the implant. In some situations it is possible for temporary teeth to be attached to an implant at the time of fitting.

Implants have two sections – the screw in the jaw and an extension that is added later when the post is secure. Attaching the extension needs a small cut in the gum above the implant. You might have more than one implant. The replacement teeth might be fixed permanently (such as a crown or bridge) or attached in a way which lets you remove them for cleaning (such as a denture).

A major advantage of dental implants over conventional bridges or dentures is that they do not use your existing teeth to support the artificial tooth replacing your missing tooth. This avoids damaging your natural teeth.

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

Implants are suitable in many situations for the replacement of missing teeth. They are more secure than dentures and less damaging to neighbouring teeth than bridges.
